'American Blackout' to be shown Oct. 9

The Black Empowerment Student Alliance, Students for Justice and Peace and Amnesty International (UST chapter) are co-sponsoring a viewing of "American Blackout" on Thursday, Oct. 9. The film will be shown from 7 to 9 p.m. in Room 126, John R. Roach Center for the Liberal Arts.

This video is a documentary about what its creators see as systematic suppression of African-American votes in Florida, especially during the presidential elections of 2000 and 2004.

Two students from BESA and Amnesty International will offer a few short comments after the video and moderate what the sponsors hope will be an open, freewheeling and nonpartisan discussion. Voter registration cards also will be available.

For more information call Michael Andregg, (651) 962-5907, or any of the sponsoring student clubs.
