By visiting each other’s classrooms, faculty have learned new techniques, including the "flipped classroom" in which students watch lecture videos before class and spend class time more engaged with the material.
This award, given every year by the Center for Global and Local Engagement, recognizes one St. Thomas faculty member for innovation and excellence in integrating sustainability into one of his or her courses.
Since early last year, a small team of St. Thomas faculty, staff and students has been taking steps toward earning the special designation granted by Ashoka, a nonprofit and the largest network of social entrepreneurs in the world. If all continues to go smoothly, the team is hopeful that St. Thomas will be designated a Changemaker Campus in early 2017.
In the midst of Tommie Football's quest for the NCAA Division III national title, four of the players vied for the prestigious Hult Prize, a social entrepreneurship competition with $1 million in seed money on the line. The team won the St. Thomas competition and competed in the global regional competition in March in San Francisco.
Beloved former Dining Services employee Dorothy "Dottie" Piper died Wednesday at 94 years old. She worked at St. Thomas from 1998-2014 as a card swiper outside the Café in Murray-Herrick Campus Center and The View in Anderson Student Center.
