A St. Thomas graduate student, who asked to remain anonymous, is the winner of last month's Acts of Kindness Award.
The winner's nominator said that the student leads a group of volunteers who serve breakfast once a month at Sharing and Caring Hands. The organization focuses on the needs of the poor and serves more than 20,000 people a month.
The nomination reads: “He has emulated the love of Christ as he leads his group of volunteers in serving others. He has done this selflessly for the past 10 years … with a smile and a good attitude. He has been a shining light as a student of St. Thomas and in making our community a better place.
“He has shown the love of Christ to others in our community and regardless of how busy he is with school and other activities, serving remains a priority to him.”
The Acts of Kindness Award is a traveling trophy presented each month. Previous recipients were:
- February: Terry Lynn Eggert, operations manager in the Registrar’s Office
- January: Dede Hering, switchboard operator supervisor.
The UST community is invited to nominate a student, faculty or staff member, a UST organization or a department that has done something kind to make St. Thomas a great place to learn, work or live. Complete nominations by the last Friday of each month; nomination forms are available on the Acts of Kindness Web site.
The award is part of the UST Acts of Kindness Campaign, which identifies, promotes, supports and inspires acts of kindness across the UST community. The campaign was created by the Office for Mission and Edna Comedy, associate vice president of human resources.
