From the Recycling Team

“There are two ways to get enough: one is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.” — G.K. Chesterton (1874-1936)

Our consumer culture is out of control. Once, we shopped to buy what we needed, period. Now that we don’t need much, we shop for other reasons: to impress each other, to fill a void, to kill time. Twenty percent of the earth’s population uses 80 percent of its natural resources. Our overconsumption is killing the planet.

Join the Recycling Team in celebrating the annual Buy Nothing Day, the day after Thanksgiving, Friday, Nov. 24. It’s simple to participate — participate by not participating. This year, just take a break and enjoy the Thanksgiving season.
