A lecture on “The Life and Times of Christopher Dawson” will be given by his grandson, Julian Scott, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 14, in the auditorium of the John R. Roach Center for the Liberal Arts on the St. Paul campus of the University of St. Thomas.

Scott, who serves as Dawson’s literary executor, will speak about his grandfather’s work, friends and influences.
A reception for Scott will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 13, in the Special Collections Room of the O’Shaughnessy-Frey Library Center.
Both events are free and open to the public and are sponsored by St. Thomas’ Center for Catholic Studies.
The Special Collections Department at St. Thomas is home to a collection of works by Dawson, an English Catholic intellectual who wrote about the relationships between religion and culture, and Christianity’s contributions to the development of western civilization.
Dawson, a convert, lived from 1889 to 1970 and was the first to hold the Chauncey Stillman Chair of Roman Catholic Studies at Harvard University. The collection of his works is part of the Center for Catholic Studies collection and was a gift from Eugene and Faye Sitzmann. Materials from the Dawson collection, including books, papers and professional correspondence, will be displayed at the Wednesday reception.
