Mandatory student health insurance verification process under way

Mandatory Student Health Insurance Verification Process

By Madonna McDermott, director, Student Health Service and Wellness Center

Students who become seriously ill or injured may have their lives and academic goals adversely impacted. Providing St. Thomas students with affordable access to medical care and health care insurance are among our priorities. These priorities align strongly with the University of St. Thomas institutional strategic goals of access, excellence and Catholic identity.

This fall, the University of St. Thomas requires all undergraduate degree-seeking students taking 12 or more credits and all graduate/professional students taking nine or more credits to demonstrate health insurance coverage. Students who are not covered by other policies will have the option of purchasing the UST-sponsored health insurance policy. The insurance premiums for 2007-08 are $875/year.

An electronic process through Murphy Online has been created for students to submit their current health care insurance information or to purchase insurance if they are not currently covered. Once a student has completed the online process, any changes should be communicated directly to the Student Health Insurance Office. Coverage for dependents also can be completed by contacting the Student Health Insurance Office.

For more information contact the Student Health Insurance Office, (651) 962-6752.
