Music Department offers piano lessons for elective credit
The UST Music Department invites students, regardless of major, to register for piano courses in the fall semester.
Group classes are available for beginners, and those with some prior experience are eligible for individual lessons. Although a minimum proficiency is not required, students must be willing to practice regularly to develop their musical skills.
Two courses are open to nonmusic majors:
MUSP 101 – Group Piano
This course is designed for students who have little or no background in piano. The small-group setting includes work on reading music, keyboard technique, improvising, playing by ear, and harmonizing melodies. Groups meet in the keyboard lab for an hour each week (1 credit).
MUSP 131 – Piano: Elective Lessons
This course consists of an individual, one-on-one piano lesson for students who have some prior background in piano. The student meets individually with the piano instructor once a week for a 30-minute or a 50-minute lesson (1 credit).
Piano courses are open to all members of the UST community, and faculty and staff also are welcome to register for lessons. Tuition remission does not apply.
