Nominate faculty and students for service-learning cash awards

The Office of Academic Affairs will present two cash awards recognizing outstanding efforts in service learning. These awards have been given annually since 1999, recognizing excellence in the implementation of and participation in service learning at the University of St. Thomas.

The faculty award of $1,000 is based on the following:

  • Eligibility – This award is open to all full- and part-time undergraduate faculty at the University of St. Thomas.
  • Criteria – Achievement in any or all of the following areas should be demonstrated:

    1. Teaching. The recipient will be recognized for outstanding service-learning achievement in a course or courses, demonstrating strong integration of service-learning efforts into the particular academic discipline and the specific course.

    2. Engaging the profession. The recipient will be recognized for writing and presenting papers about service-learning within one's particular academic discipline.

    3. Service. The recipient will be recognized for promoting service learning at the University of St. Thomas, as well as for creating and participating in meaningful social change in the broader community.

The student award of $250 is based on the following:

  • Eligibility – This award is open to all full- and part-time undergraduate students at the University of St. Thomas .
  • Criteria – Achievement in any or all of the following areas should be demonstrated:

    1. The service must have been performed as part of a class during the current academic year.

    2. The service must have made a significant impact on the student.

    3. The service must have provided significant benefits to the community partner.

To be considered for either of these awards, please submit a letter of nomination addressing the specified criteria. Self-nominations as well as nominations of others are accepted.

Send the letter of nomination via e-mail to Dr. Kimberly Vrudny, interim faculty coordinator of service learning, or to Mail #JRC 153 no later than Friday, March 30. Questions also may be directed to her.
