October performances:
- Dr. David Jenkins, liturgical music director at the university’s St. Paul Seminary School of Divinity, will give a faculty organ recital featuring the music of Sweelinck, Mozart, Bach, Høgenhaven, Barber, and Heiller.
7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 4, in St. Mary’s Chapel, 2260 Summit Ave.
- A Friends of the Orphans Benefit Concert will feature the NPH Orchestra performing in the United States for the first time. NPH, or Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos, is Spanish for “Our Little Brothers and Sisters,” a network of orphanages in Latin America and the Caribbean. The concert will be interwoven with heartwarming stories about the children of NPH. Free will donations will help improve the lives of orphaned, abandoned and disadvantaged children.
7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, Brady Educational Center auditorium
- The UST Bands and Choirs will give a fall concert in one of the Twin Cities’ premier venues. The UST Bands include the Symphonic Wind Ensemble, directed by Dr. Matthew George, and the Symphonic Band, directed by Dr. Douglas Orzolek. The Chamber Singers, Concert Choir and Festival Choir will perform under the direction of Dr. Angela Broeker.
2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 24, in Orchestra Hall, 1111 Nicollet Mall, Minneapolis
- The annual High School Honor Band Festival will feature top student performers from more than 30 regional high schools. UST conductors Dr. Matthew George and Dr. Douglas Orzolek will share the podium with special guest conductor and composer Roger Cichy.
