Paul Wilson, translator for Czech Republic President Václav Havel, to speak Friday
Paul Wilson, official translator of the work of playwright and former Czech Republic President Václav Havel, will offer a reading and lecture titled "Not Lost in Translation."
The event will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 18, in the auditorium, Room 126, John R. Roach Center for the Liberal Arts.
Wilson, a noted Canadian writer, radio producer and, from 1970-72, lead singer of the rock band Plastic People of the Universe (a touchstone for the underground cultural movement after the 1968 Prague Spring), will speak about his own Czechoslovakian experiences and read passages from his recent translation of Havel's autobiographical work, Taking Leave.
The event is sponsored by the Czech and Slovak Cultural Center, the Czech and Slovak Sokol Minnesota, the Czech Honorary Consulate, and the Havel Symposium, a partnership between the University of St. Thomas and House of Hope Presbyterian Church.
