Please remember in your prayers George Barnard ’53, who died Wednesday, Jan. 2.
Barnard, 81, a resident of Waterville, Minn., was the first in his family to graduate from St. Thomas, followed by children Gregory Barnard ’79; Lisa (Barnard) Hoeppner ’81; Barbara (Barnard) Kluender ’83; daughter-in-law Christine (Morrisette) Barnard ’82; son-in-law Phil Hoeppner ’86, ’97 M.A. (Alumni and Constituent Relations); and grandchildren Natalie Barnard ’06, Katrina Kluender ’12 and Monica Kluender ’14.
After college, Barnard served for two years as an officer in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Korea. Following his service time, he was a high school teacher, head baseball coach, athletic director, and community-services director at Waterville-Elysian-Morristown schools.
