University of Toronto professor Dr. Janine Langan will discuss Fyodor Dostoevsky’s The Brothers Karamazov in a 7:30 p.m. lecture Thursday, Nov. 18, in 3M Auditorium, Owens Science Hall.

The talk, free and open to the public, is the second in a series of four lectures sponsored this year by the Center for Catholic Studies on the theme “Terrors of the Heart.” The lectures are geared for general audiences; each focuses on a novel that reveals the riches, longings and even the evils of the human heart.

Langan is the Bennet Professor of Christianity and Culture at St. Michael’s College of the University of Toronto. A specialist in English, French and Russian literature, she is a founding member and former director of the Program in Christianity and Culture at St. Michael’s. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Smith College, a license from the Sorbonne in Paris and a Ph.D. from Indiana University.
