The University of St. Thomas has named four to its 35-member board of trustees. Their terms began in October. They are:

  • Michael Dougherty, founder and chairman of Minneapolis-based Dougherty Financial Group LLC. The 1962 St. Thomas alumnus chairs the board of directors of Allina Health System and serves on the boards of Countrywide Financial Corp. Inc. and Definity Health. He also has served on the boards of several arts and cultural organizations, including the Guthrie Theater, St. Paul Chamber Orchestra and the Science Museum of Minnesota. He and his family live in Wayzata.
  • Dr. Antoine Garibaldi, president of Gannon University, a Catholic university in Erie, Pa. His 30-year career in higher education has included posts at Howard University, Xavier University in Louisiana, Educational Testing Service, and the U.S. Department of Education’s National Institute of Education. He serves on a variety of national boards and is past chair of the American Association for Higher Education. He has a Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota. He and his wife live in Erie.
  • Laurence LeJeune, chairman and chief executive officer of Golden Valley-based LeJeune Investment Inc. and former president and CEO of LeJeune Steel from 1967 to 1989. He is a 1958 St. Thomas alumnus who has served on a variety of corporate boards as well as the board of De La Salle High School, Minneapolis, and the board of governors of St. Thomas’ School of Law. He and his wife live in Minneapolis.
  • Mark Zesbaugh, CEO of Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America. He also serves on the Executive Committee of the Boy Scouts of America (Viking Council). He earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration and accounting from St. Thomas in 1986, his certification as a public accountant in 1987 and his designation as a chartered financial analyst in 1995. Zesbaugh is a member of the Twin Cities Society of Security Analysts and the Association of Investments Management and Research. He and his family live in Eagan.

The Most Rev. Harry Flynn, archbishop of St. Paul and Minneapolis, is ex-officio chairman of the university’s board of trustees.
