St. Thomas Radio Club December meeting is Friday

From Dr. Tom Sturm
Quantitative Methods and Computer Science

The University of St. Thomas Radio Club announces a joint meeting with the St. Paul Radio Club to be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, in Room 304, Murray-Herrick Campus Center. A social hour from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. will precede the meeting.

The December program will be presented by Dan Fish, KB0XC, who is co-owner, together with his wife, Maline Fish, of Radio City Inc. Dan’s topic is “The Future of Ham Radio.”

Many hams will remember being in philosophical and practical discussions of amateur radio with Fish, who keeps a keen eye on every change in the hobby, weaving his observations into a continually modified picture of the future of ham radio.

He will discuss the effect on amateur radio of incorporating other technologies (such as the Internet) and of upcoming changes (such as eliminating the code requirement). He sees that there are different pictures of the future which occur, depending on who is looking down the gun sight, yet sees communality, since society is all tied together by the art of communication.

Bring holiday treats if possible; a cheese-and-meat platter, regular and decaf coffee, and soda will be provided.
