Sun Country Airlines President and Chief Executive Officer Bill La Macchia Jr. will address the University of St. Thomas Alumni Association’s First Friday Club luncheon at noon Friday, Jan. 7, 2000, at the Radisson Plaza Hotel, 35 S. Seventh St., Minneapolis.

In 1998, the La Macchia family purchased the remaining interest of Sun Country, making it 100 percent family-owned. Under the leadership of Bill La Macchia Jr., the 16 year-old charter-based airline has been transformed into a competitively scheduled airline, winning the support of travel agents, tour operators and the public.

Taking on the role of David going against Goliath, La Macchia has aggressively and personally led the growth of the Mendota Heights-based company into a $250 million enterprise. La Macchia will share the story of Sun Country’s transformation and the challenges it faces in its struggle for survival.

On first Fridays of each month, October to June, the First Friday Club meets for lunch and a speaker of current interest. St. Thomas alumni and friends, along with the general public, are invited. Cost of each luncheon and presentation is $17.

On Feb. 4 the club will welcome St. Paul Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Patricia Harvey.

Reservations for the January luncheon are due at noon Tuesday, Jan. 4. Early reservations are recommended as these luncheons fill quickly. For reservations and further information, call the St. Thomas Alumni Association, (651) 962-6430.
