Women’s golf: The women’s golf team heads north Friday and Saturday to compete in the 36-hole MIAC women’s golf championships. St. Thomas tuned up for the weekend by finishing sixth in a field of nine at the Gustavus Invite last weekend. Jodi Pollard (90-85) and Katti Severson (87-88) led the Tommie scorers. Defending champion and host school Concordia-Moorhead is the favorite with St. Ben’s, Gustavus, St. Thomas and St. Olaf likely battling for second place. The Tommies finished fourth last year.

Men’s golf: The men’s team is in action as well Saturday, Sunday and Monday in the Twin Cities Classic. Last weekend, St. Thomas finished sixth (beating MIAC power Gustavus by nine strokes) in the Wisconsin-Eau Claire Invitational. Luke Tierney, a freshman, shot 71 on Sunday and junior Mike Wilhelm did likewise on Monday.

Football: There’s little relief in store for the football team, which fell to 1-2 (1-1 in the MIAC) after last Saturday’s 34-18 loss to St. John’s. Don Roney’s team is at undefeated Gustavus at 1 p.m. Saturday. The Gusties, ranked 25th in the country, are expecting a full house for their Homecoming game. Good news for the gridders: Quarterback Greg Kaiser, knocked out of last Saturday’s game with a concussion, is expected to play.

Volleyball: Congrats to St. Thomas seniors Jill Kraus and Jenny Schmitt, named MIAC Volleyball Hitter and Setter of the Week. The pair came up big as the volleyballers won three of five matches last week. The Tommies took a 7-8 overall mark into Wednesday’s match at Concordia. This weekend, UST plays at Hamline Friday (7:30 p.m.) and hosts Bethel Saturday (3 p.m) in Schoenecker Arena.

Soccer: The women’s soccer team hosts Augsburg Saturday (1 p.m.), while the men’s team, which moved back to .500 on the season with a 2-1 win over Concordia on Tuesday, is at Augsburg Saturday (4:30 p.m.) before hosting Cornell Sunday (3 p.m.).

Cross country: The men’s cross country team heads west for the Rocky Mountain Shootout in Boulder, Colo., Saturday, while the women have the weekend off.
