The College of Arts and Sciences' American Culture and Difference Program will host a talk by University of Minnesota history professor Dr. Erika Lee on Thursday, Oct. 20. She will speak on “Angel Island: Immigrant Gateway to America.”
Free and open to the public, the event will be held from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in Room 126, John R. Roach Center for the Liberal Arts.
Lee is a historian and director of the Asian American Studies Program at the University of Minnesota. She is the author or co-author of the award-winning books Angel Island: Immigrant Gateway to America (co-written with Judy Yung, Oxford University Press, 2010) and At America’s Gates: Chinese Immigration During the Exclusion Era, 1882-1943 (University of North Carolina Press, 2003). Her current work in progress is Asian Americas, a global history of Asians in the Americas.
She has presented lectures at universities and to media outlets and community organizations throughout the United States and Canada.
