We Are Tommies: Experiencing the TV Spotlight

Well before St. Thomas' awareness campaign brought three groups of Tommies' stories to TV screens across the Midwest, the featured students and alumni stepped into the experience of being part of commercial shoots. The Newsroom asked each about their experience and what it's like to share their "We Are Tommies" story with the world.

St. Thomas Community Members Receive 2018 Campus Compact Awards

Senior Mohamed Malim, Associate Professor and Bachelor of Social Work program Director Dr. Katharine Hill, and community partners Gayle Godfrey and the behavioral health staff at Regions Hospital have received Minnesota Campus Compact Awards for their leadership and civic engagement.

President Emeritus Father Dennis Dease Receives National Award

Father Dennis Dease, president emeritus of St. Thomas, has received the Rev. Theodore Hesburgh Award, named after the late University of Notre Dame president, for “outstanding contributions to Catholic higher education,” from the Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities.

Two Spring Graduates to Study Overseas as Fulbright Scholars

School of Law student Christina Espey-Sundt '17 will study refugee and immigration law in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Senior Mitchell Sullivan, a triple major in German, international studies and political science, heads to Germany in the Fulbright's English Teaching Assistantship program.

Beneath Purple Lights, St. Thomas Robot Project Blooms

The purple light emanating from the Owens Science Hall greenhouse isn't the School of Engineering's homage to the late, great Prince. A cross-departmental team at St. Thomas is testing a robot with the overall goal of addressing the world crisis of food shortages and the development of new technologies to grow healthy crops using less man-made and natural resources.

St. Thomas Making Headway in Bid to Become Ashoka Changemaker Campus

Since early last year, a small team of St. Thomas faculty, staff and students has been taking steps toward earning the special designation granted by Ashoka, a nonprofit and the largest network of social entrepreneurs in the world. If all continues to go smoothly, the team is hopeful that St. Thomas will be designated a Changemaker Campus in early 2017.

Thinking Outside the Huddle

In the midst of Tommie Football's quest for the NCAA Division III national title, four of the players vied for the prestigious Hult Prize, a social entrepreneurship competition with $1 million in seed money on the line. The team won the St. Thomas competition and competed in the global regional competition in March in San Francisco.
