'Eat Healthy, Stay Fit and Feel Confident': Daily events next week promote healthy living

The Wellness Center and Student Health Service will co-sponsor a weeklong “Eat Healthy, Stay Fit and Feel Confident” program of daily events next week to promote good health.

On Monday, Feb. 22, Carrie Peterson will speak about “Nutrition for the Everyday Athlete” from noon to 1 p.m. in O’Shaughnessy Educational Center auditorium. Peterson is an expert in this field and works with many Minnesota professionals. She is well-known for her work as team dietitian for the Minnesota Twins, Wild, Lynx and Timberwolves and also is the director for the Dietetic Internships for graduate students at the University of Minnesota.

Registration is necessary because many students, faculty and staff are expected to attend. If  interested, e-mail the Wellness Center to sign up. A free lunch will be provided for the first 30 students who e-mail. (Faculty, staff and alumni are welcome to attend the event.) Include your name, UST ID number and add a note if you would like a vegetarian option.

Also during the Wellness Center’s weeklong event, “America the Beautiful” will be screened from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 24, in O’Shaughnessy Educational Center auditorium. Popcorn and soft drinks will be provided.

“America the Beautiful” won a Special Jury Award, Audience Award and an award for Best Documentary. It discusses the American obsession with beauty, including cosmetic surgery, unhealthy weight and unrealistic cosmetic desires. The documentary was released in 2007, rated R, and has a runtime of 105 minutes.
