David Fischer ’01, J.D. ’06, director of gift planning and legal affairs for the Catholic Community Foundation in the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis, will be the next speaker in the “Living the Mission: Alumni Reflections in the School of Law” series.
St. Thomas students, staff and faculty are welcome to attend this luncheon event from 12:30 to 1:15 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, in Room 244 at the UST School of Law.

This speaker series presents St. Thomas alumni who discuss how they integrate faith, reason and service into their personal and professional lives. Fischer will discuss how law school graduates must find the right job but also build a base from which to evaluate the direction they are heading – the moral compass of every successful attorney.
As director of gift planning and legal affairs for the Catholic Community Foundation Fischer is responsible for directing the development of private and institutional funds at the Foundation for the Archdiocese and helping maintain donor relations that carry an asset value of $150,000,000. He also presents at estate planning seminars throughout the archdiocese in support of endowment fund education, parish and school institutional advancement, and planned giving.
Prior to his current position, Fischer spent the majority of his legal career working in municipal law. He served with Hawkins and Associates, located in the Twin Cities, as city attorney and prosecutor for five cities as well as a litigation associate and research attorney for the League of Minnesota Cities. He also has served with a number of local nonprofit organizations, including Saint Paul’s Outreach, NET Ministries, Total Life Care Centers, The Office of Marriage and Family Life and the Minnesota Family Council.
Before attending law school, Fischer spent four years studying at St. John Vianney Seminary. After graduating, he worked for the University of St. Thomas, where he served under the Office of Mission for two years. He then attended the UST School of Law and was admitted to the Minnesota State Bar in 2006.
Fischer, his wife, Laura, and their four children live in Woodbury, Minn., and attend the Church of St. Ambrose.
