In the News: Mark Osler on the Jan. 6 Committee Court Filing

Law professor Mark Osler commented for PolitiFact on the recent court filing presented by the Jan. 6 committee in the House of Representatives. Osler explained the significance of the filing, and how it might affect future legal actions against former President Donald Trump.

From the article: Mark Osler, a law professor at the University of St. Thomas, added that this development is noteworthy because an earlier independent investigation of Trump and his allies by special counsel Robert Mueller could have recommended prosecuting the then-president, but it did not, citing longstanding legal opinions by the Justice Department that it cannot prosecute a sitting president.

"It is significant in the current context, in large part because the Mueller Report did not make a similar conclusion," Osler said.
