Liberty in North Korea Representatives to Speak at St. Thomas Today

Representatives from the international organization Liberty in North Korea will speak at St. Thomas today, Monday, Nov. 7. The presentation and showing of a documentary on the North Korean refugee crisis in China will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the Koch Commons Fireside Room, Room 113.

LiNK, or Liberty in North Korea, is the only organization in North America devoted to the North Korean humanitarian and refugee crisis. It provides protection and aid to North Korean refugees hiding in China and, utilizing a modern-day underground railroad through Southeast Asia, rescues refugees and helps them to reach freedom.

LiNK’s global grassroots movement seeks to raise awareness of this crisis and provides a way for the international community to take part in bringing about effective change. The organization is on its eighth national tour, the Reliance Tour, taking the story of the North Korea crisis across the United States and Canada.

Produced by LiNK, the documentary features interviews with refugees and tells of the dangers and fears they face while hiding in China. A Q-and-A session will follow the film to help the audience better understand the situation in North Korea and how they can be involved in ending this crisis.

This event is sponsored by Students for Justice and Peace.
