Musical Events Highlight May Calendar at St. Thomas

The sound of music will be heard throughout May at the University of St. Thomas. All of the events listed below will take place on the university's St. Paul campus, with the exception of the UST Bands Concert on May 6. All of the events are free, with the exception of the “Zappa Goes to College” symposium on May 22.

Chamber Singers Musical Theater Concert
7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 30, and 2 p.m. Sunday, May 1, Brady Educational Center auditorium

Small ensembles, duets and solos will be performed by members of the Chamber Singers.

Chamber Singers, Concert Choir, Festival Choir Spring Concert

Current members of these three choirs will be joined by choir alumni to perform a “Greatest Hits” concert of repertoire sung during the past 12 years.

UST Bands Concert
8 p.m. Friday, May 6, O’Shaughnessy Auditorium, St. Catherine University

The Symphonic Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Matthew George, and the Symphonic Band, under the direction of Dr. Douglas Orzolek, will perform their annual May concert at the O’Shaughnessy Auditorium. The concert presents the world premiere performance of “Concertino” by Ralph Hultgren and also features the music of Barber, Dello Joio, Gorb and Grainger.

The Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Singers present an evening concert of favorite standards and contemporary jazz arrangements. Jeff Rinear and Denis Allairewill conduct.

Guitar Ensemble Concert
8 p.m. Wednesday, May 11, Brady Educational Center auditorium

The ensemble, conducted by Joan Griffith, is known for presenting diverse concerts of Renaissance, 20th century, jazz and rock music.

“Zappa Goes to College” symposium
