George Dow is vice president of Executive Career Transition Consulting for Right Management, an international career management and organizational consulting firm. He brings more than 20 years of experience in advising executives and professionals during their career transitions. His focus is on assisting his clients with career assessment, identification of options and coaching to achieve desired outcomes, both personally and professionally.
Dow’s engaging and thought provoking style delivered his presentation in a way that everyone could relate to within their current job situation. His topic covered the nine alternative career paths that influence people in their career, including items such as money, difficulty of the job, bridging from one job to another, job environments, matching of interests to a position as well as other factors that cause professionals to make specific career decisions.
Dow also explained how our career development must adapt to the demands of the market. He finished his presentation with two real life case examples of professionals who had to make a decision related to their current job situation either from a changing work environment or a change in interest in their current position. This tied the key components from the presentation together quite nicely.
After the presentation, each attendee performed their “30-second pitch” telling a bit about their passions, several interesting career achievements, what companies they may have interest in for the future and where they see their career taking them in the next two to five years. All attendees felt the event was very worthwhile, engaging and energizing as well as a great way to connect or reconnect with other UST MBAs.
