2011 Hearts & Hammers Project Day a Success

Coffee, paint, chocolate mulch and volunteering for a good cause where the four primary ingredients in UST’s recent participation in the fall 2011 Hearts & Hammers Project Day.

More than 30 students and alumni gathered on Saturday, September 17, for a day of fellowship and volunteering. Volunteers met at 8 a.m. over a cup of coffee to reconnect with former classmates and to meet new acquaintances. Shortly thereafter, the team began scraping shutters, painting the house, landscaping and making minor exterior repairs. With only two additional trips to the hardware store, the project was completed by late afternoon. The homeowner, Velma, was very thankful for the efforts of the UST team and extremely pleased with the end result.

Hearts & Hammers is a nonprofit organization dedicated to assisting senior and physically disabled homeowners with exterior improvements projects. This is the third year that the University of St. Thomas Opus College of Business has hosted a project team.
