Corporate Responsibility: The American Experience won the “best book” award from the Social Issues in Management division of the Academy of Management at its annual meeting on August 4, 2014 in Philadelphia.
Research and writing of the book was a project of the Center for Ethical Business Cultures located at the University of St. Thomas Opus College of Business. The book was one of 16 submitted for consideration.
Kenneth E. Goodpaster, professor emeritus and former Koch Chair in Business Ethics at the Opus College of Business, served as executive editor for the project and led the team of four scholars who authored the book.
Archie B. Carroll (University of Georgia), Kenneth J. Lipartito (Florida International University), James E. Post (Boston University), and Patricia H. Werhane (DePaul University) — teamed as co-authors for this landmark exploration of how ideas and practices evolved over 200 years in American business in response to the questions — “to whom, for what and how is the modern corporation responsible.”
The project was funded through a generous grant from Harry R. Halloran, Jr., a Philadelphia-based entrepreneur. The Academy of Management is the leading worldwide professional association of organizational and management scholars; the Social Issues in Management division includes nearly 1700 scholars who examine ”social, ethical, public policy, ecological, and international environments influencing and influenced by organizations.”
