Published in spring 2009, The Scarlet Letter and Adventures of Huckleberry Finn are the first two American literary works in the series. The third, Harriet Beecher Stowe’s Uncle Tom’s Cabin, will be published in fall 2009. Designed for the late-high-school and early-college markets, each volume features an authoritative text of the novel with all new and extensive notes and glosses on terms and words with which students may be unfamiliar; a contextual introduction; and several original critical essays from scholars. The emphasis of the series is on reinvigorated “traditional” historical, biographical, and religious or moral criticism. Each book is accompanied by a separately published student study guide also written by Reichardt.
