Archdiocese Identifies Priests Accused of Sexual Misconduct

The Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis has released a list of 34 priests who have credible claims against them of sexual abuse of a minor.

The list includes John McGrath, associate dean of students and director of housing at St. Thomas from 1970 to 1976, and Gilbert DeSutter, spiritual director of St. John Vianney Seminary from 1968 to 1973. McGrath died in 1995 and DeSutter lives in Arizona.

The allegations against the priests were made after they left St. Thomas and St. John Vianney, and the archdiocese said the alleged abuse did not occur during their time at the university. St. Thomas has no records or knowledge of the allegations other than what the archdiocese has disclosed.
