Cake Reception Tuesday to Honor Glenn Caruso, First Two-time Liberty Mutual 'National Coach of the Year'

A cake reception to honor Glenn Caruso, the Liberty Mutual Division III football national  “Coach of the Year,” will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, in the Hall of Fame area of the Anderson Athletic and Recreation Complex. All are welcome to stop by to greet Caruso and catch a glimpse of the trophy honoring this award. A Liberty Mutual highlight video on Caruso can be viewed here.

Caruso, who also won the award in 2010, will again be honored in the permanent Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year display at the College Football Hall of Fame in South Bend, Ind. In addition, Liberty Mutual will make a $50,000 charitable donation on his behalf, which Caruso has designated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Bucky’s Pride and the Ronald McDonald House Charities, Upper Midwest, located in Minneapolis just four miles from UST's main campus.

Off the field, Caruso and his program have made a great impact in St. Paul and beyond. With his award from the 2010 Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year, Caruso founded “Bucky’s Pride.” He also is a founder of a Reading Recess program, and the Tommie players and he participated in the Up ‘Til Dawn benefit, writing 2,000 letters to raise funds for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. He also holds an annual youth football camp and is active in state and national coaching organizations at several levels.

Liberty Mutual also will make a $20,000 scholarship donation to the St. Thomas Alumni Association in Caruso’s name.

The additional 2011 Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year winners from other NCAA football divisions are Les Miles, Louisiana State (FBS); Rob Ash, Montana State University (FCS); and Tim Beck, Pittsburg (Kan.) State University (Division II).
