Have you been wondering what to do with your degree in English after graduation? Get answers to your questions at a "What You Can Do With an English Major" panel discussion on Friday, April 1. The discussion will be held from 3:15 to 4:15 p.m. in the O'Shaughnessy (“Leather”) Room of the O’Shaughnessy-Frey Library Center.
Four professionals will discuss how they began their careers after graduating with an English major and share the challenges, opportunities and surprises they encountered along the way. They’ll also offer advice to current and prospective English majors about how skills developed in English – including creative thinking, critical analysis, and concise writing – can be applied to locating and working in a satisfying job.
Students are encouraged to bring their career-related questions to this event.
The guest panelists include:
- Jon Balsbaugh, head of school, teacher, small-article writer, Trinity School at River Ridge
- Frank Bures, freelance writer
- Jennifer Harmening, marketing sales associate, intern coordinator, Milkweed Press
- Philip Hoeppner, communications manager, St. Thomas Alumni and Constituent Relations
In addition to the four panelists, a representative from the St. Thomas Career Development Center also will give a brief presentation that highlights the many services that are available to students and alumni at any stage of the career search process.
Light refreshments will be served.
