Clue No. 5 for the Heritage Week treasure hunt

Clue No. 5 for the Heritage Week treasure hunt

Here's the next clue in the fourth annual University of St. Thomas Heritage Week treasure hunt.

For an explanation of the treasure hunt and its rules, click here.

As noted in the first story, the treasure is not hidden inside a St. Thomas building, so dress warm. Also, don't forget that you don't need to tip, dismantle, mangle or otherwise wreck anything to find the treasure. Please be kind to the campus during your hunt.

For your treasure-hunting convenience, we've listed earlier clues below.

Clue No. 5

We don't know the date of this picture,
It's our baseball team, one is the pitcher.

Around 1900? Your guess as good as mine.
But they beat evil Hamline, the score was one to nine.

There they are, in front of old "Admin" Building,
Those doors could use some paint, or maybe just a gilding.

Doors, doors, in all these dumb clues,
This might be helpful, yet maybe a ruse.

Some doors are friendly, some give you the jitters,
Some keep out people, and some keep out critters.

Clue No. 4

Oompa oompa, here's the Tommie band,
In front of Science Building and looking mighty grand.

Nineteen eleven, that's this photo date,
That could be a clue, or just some stinky bait.

Time to make this treasure hunt, a little bit more tidy,
So go look near a door, and please don't get all snidey.

Lots of doors, too many doors, this isn't very easy,
When you think of all the kinds, it's enough to make you queasy.

Clue No. 3

They changed St. Thomas, this pioneer crowd,
Our first coed class, seated happy and proud.

They met for this shot, from the early '80s,
Real and true Tommies, not visiting Katies.

If that's a poor clue, of course you are right,
Look at this picture: What's locked up for the night?

Could be a lock or a door or a window,
The clues get better, you'll see as we go.

Clue No. 2

Women Tommies back in fifty-four?
Yes, half a century, then a little more.

The first to come, were in graduate education,
Many studied here, during summer vacation.

So what is the clue? What good is this for?
Well what's behind them, why another door.

You're getting closer now, clue by clue by clue.
The campus is right, but for now we bid adieu.

Clue No. 1

Our purple and gray, from nineteen hundred one.
Look how fierce, they surely must have won.

Now it's your turn, to be a big winner,
Just follow the rules, and don't be a sinner.

So what's the clue? Are you starting to wonder?
Search high, of course, but also what's under.

Consider this door, of our Old Class Building,
It's long gone now, turned to nothin' but kindling.

Opening Doors: the theme of our capital campaign,
Go find the treasure, crack open champagne.
