Coughlan Companies, whose history began in 1883 when T.R. Coughlan founded a stone business in Mankato, has a long history of philanthropy. The late Thomas P. Coughlan ’38, named "Mr. Tommy" as a St. Thomas senior, Distinguished Alumnus in 1977 and member of the St. Thomas Board of Trustees, was among the company's third-generation of leaders. The recently razed Coughlan Field House at St. Thomas was named to honor the family.
