Crew team participates in Dad Vail Regatta
After training throughout the spring, the UST crew team brought five boats to last weekend's Dad Vail Regatta on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia, Pa. The Dad Vail Regatta is the largest collegiate regatta in the country, with more than 100 colleges and universities from the United States and Canada.
The women's varsity eight was a ranked boat and highly competitive at the regatta. The boat included: Mary Hammer, Clare Naughton, senior Dee Kummerfeld, senior Shelby Leiffers, Kylie Gayan, Danielle Assie, Catherine Portmann, senior Caitlin O'Leary and coxswain Sarah Hansen.
The women's heavyweight four defeated seven boats with an excellent time. The boat included: Gina Foschi, Madeline Meyers, senior Holly Jenniges, Liz Polacheck and coxswain Shannon Russel. The women's lightweight four clocked an impressive time. The boat included: Pam Dentz, Kristi Kruppiak, Breanna Renteria, Alyssa Glawe and coxswain Kristin Lee.
Both men's boats advanced to the grand final. The men's varsity pair placed fifth in the grand final and had the second fastest time in their time trial. The boat included senior Porter Nellans and Brandon Deml. The men's varsity four placed fourth in the grand final, defeating 50 other boats in that category. The boat included: senior Jim Portmann, senior Jon Athmann, Dima Koshevy, Kyle Smisek and coxswain Gina Dolski.
Overall, the UST Crew Team had a successful spring season and holds great promise for the year to come.
