If you have a love and passion for dance or just want to try something new, the UST Dance Club is looking for dedicated young women to be a part of the club for the 2011-2012 school year.
The Dance Club’s mission statement includes these goals: “to provide dancers with an outlet for their talent while improving the community both inside and outside the University of St. Thomas campus and to promote health, wellness and a positive body image for young women in celebration of the diversity of dance.”
Throughout the year, the UST Dance Club puts on several shows and competes in at least one competition, but usually more, to showcase everyone’s talent and love for dance. While the dancers practice hard to prepare for these performances, it is well worth the work as close-knit lifelong friendships are formed and everyone grows as a dancer and a person.
Practices take place from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays; however, students who already are registered for 8 a.m. Tuesday/Thursday classes should not worry because tryouts will be held and new club members will be added during spring semester as well.
Fall preparation and tryouts will be held from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. in the AARC studios:
- Thursday, Sept. 22, and Tuesday, Sept. 27, learn tryout routine
- Thursday Sept. 29, tryouts (everyone will sign up for time slots)
Everyone who auditions makes the club. Tryouts are held to place dancers onto a team according to their dance styles for the best team chemistry and performance. Club members have a wide range of experience with some girls in the club dancing for at least 15 years and others having no formal dance training.
Haven’t danced in a while? Pre-tryout dance prep classes will be held from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. in the AARC studios:
- Tuesday Sept. 13
- Thursday Sept. 15
- Tuesday, Sept. 20
To learn more, visit the Dance Club booth at the Activities Fair during convocation hour on Tuesday, Sept. 20. Also, an information session with free root beer floats will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 21, for those interested in joining the club. The session will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Koch Commons Fireside Room.
