English Department concludes colloquium series: 'Writing About the Sachsenhausen SS Concentration Camp Guards'

The final event in the English Department’s 2006-2007 colloquium series is a presentation, “Drama of the Ordinary: Writing About the Sachsenhausen SS Concentration Camp Guards.”

Dr. Joan Piorkowski will give the presentation from 3:30 to 5 p.m. on Friday, April 20, in the O’Shaughnessy Room (Room 108, the “Leather Room”), O’Shaughnessy-Frey Library Center.

Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp was one of the earliest concentration camps established by the Nazi regime. Piorkowski will describe her archival research on the camp's guards and the play she is writing about them.

After reviewing the camp’s history and her research, she will focus on the experiences of a particular guard, Lt. Fritz Ficker, to talk about issues such as factual and dramatic truth.

Undergraduate students and graduate students at all levels are especially welcome to this talk. Light refreshments will be served.
