Faculty Development announces spring 2008 workshops

Here is Faculty Development's spring 2008 workshop schedule:

  • "Understanding and Responding to Students' Experiences of Classroom Learning: Using the Classroom Critical Incident Questionnaire," with Dr. Stephen Brookfield, UST Distinguished University Professor, 3:30-4:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, in Room 152, Murray-Herrick Campus Center. Registration deadline is Thursday, March 20

    Brookfield has published 10 books with four different publishers and is a four-time winner of the Cyril Houle World Award for Literature in Adult Education. His work has been translated into Chinese, German and Finnish. In 2002 he spent a semester as Visiting Professor at Harvard University. He recently received the John Ireland Award for Outstanding Achievement as Teacher-Scholar (see the Bulletin Today article published March 3, 2008).

  • "Assessing What Students Learn Using the Knowledge Survey," with Dr. Karl Wirth, Geology Department, Macalester College, 3:30-5 p.m. Friday, March 28, in Room 155, Murray-Herrick Campus Center. Registration deadline is Tuesday, March 25.

    Knowledge surveys provide a means of assessing changes in specific content learning as well as the intellectual development of each student.

  • "Teaching About Racism: A Conversation," with Dr. Stephen Brookfield, 3:30-4:30 p.m. Friday, April 4, in Room 155, Murray-Herrick Campus Center. Registration deadline is Tuesday, April 1.

    This workshop will begin by examining common mistakes that white teachers – notably the workshop leader – make in teaching about racism.  It will then move into a conversation about the experiences of workshop participants in this area.

  • "Assessing What Students Learn Using the Knowledge Survey," with Dr. Karl Wirth, Geology Department, Macalester College, 3:30-5 p.m. Thursday, April 10, in Room 344, Opus Hall, Minneapolis campus. Registration deadline is Monday, April 7.
  • "Teaching About Racism: A Conversation," with Dr. Stephen Brookfield, 2:30-3:30 p.m. Friday, April 18, in Room 417, Opus Hall, Minneapolis campus. Registration deadline is Monday, April 14.
