Health Services is reporting an increased incidence of influenza. Five students have been diagnosed with Influenza A during the past ten days. Although this cluster of activity is later than usual for influenza, it is not uncommon. Symptoms include:
- Rapid onset of high fever (>101)
- Intense body aches
- Cough
- Sore throat
- Headache
- Extreme tiredness
If you are experiencing these symptoms:
- Avoid contact with others
- Rest and drink lots of fluids
- If you are in a high-risk group, call your health care provider for advice
Seek medical attention if you are having these symptoms:
- Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
- Pain or pressure in the chest or abdomen
- Sudden dizziness
- Confusion
- Severe or persistent vomiting
- Flu-like symptoms that improve, but return with worse fever and cough
Remember that contracting the flu is possible even if you have received a flu shot.
