St. Thomas Named to President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll

The University of St. Thomas has been named to the 2010 President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll, an annual recognition program that celebrates exemplary commitment to service and volunteering from institutions of higher education.

The honor roll recognizes a variety of higher education institutions for their community service programs, practices and community partnerships. The honor roll is administered by the Corporation for National and Community Service and the U.S. Departments of Education, and Housing and Urban Development. Many higher education associations, including Campus Compact and the American Council on Education, also support and promote the honor roll.

In a letter to Father Dennis Dease, president of St. Thomas, Robert Velasco II, acting chief executive officer of the corporation, wrote: “The Corporation is proud to honor your admirable contributions to service and we are inspired by the dedication you have demonstrated to serving your local communities. Your institution plays a critical role in expanding the opportunity for citizens to serve; increasing the capacity of individuals, organizations and communities to become more effective; and demonstrating that service is a crucial tool for addressing the challenges that the nation faces.”
