Join in the discussion of 'Conflicts in Africa'
The Justice and Peace Studies program will sponsor two brown-bag discussions this fall on "Conflicts in Africa" over Thursday convocation hours, Oct. 27 and Nov. 10.
Each will feature three St. Thomas students from different countries in Africa who are having, or have recently experienced, serious armed conflicts. Both discussions will be held from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Room 152, Murray-Herrick Campus Center.
The first discussion will feature John Maire from Sudan, Ifrah Jimale from Somalia and Benjamin Nebo from Lliberia. Emphasis will be on solutions as opposed to just describing problems.
The second discussion will be with students from Uganda, Ivory Coast and possibly Ethiopia.
The African conflicts are complex, so these discussions will be quick overviews which, it is hoped, will stimulate deeper discussions.
