May commencement celebrations listed

Commencement celebrations are scheduled for next month. For details, please refer to St. Thomas' commencement Web site. Information on that site also is helpful to families and friends who plan to attend the Commencement Mass, the ceremonies and receptions.

Here's a brief schedule of ceremonies:

School of Law commencement ceremony: 2 p.m. Saturday, May 13, in the Schulze Grand Atrium of the School of Law. Speaker: Minnesota Court of Appeals Judge Wilhelmina Wright. The Dean's Reception follows.

Commencement Mass for all May graduates and their guests: 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 19, at the Cathedral of St. Paul, 239 Selby Ave., St. Paul.

Graduate commencement celebration: This celebration includes the graduate programs of the following schools and colleges: Graduate School of Professional Psychology, School of Divinity, School of Education, College of Arts and Sciences and School of Engineering.

M.S.W. candidates in the joint School of Social Work of the University of St. Thomas and the College of St. Catherine will participate in ceremonies at the College of St. Catherine.

Commencement exercises begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 20, in Schoenecker Arena. Speaker: Frances Hesselbein, chairman of the board of governors of the Leader to Leader Institute (formerly the Peter F. Drucker Foundation for Nonprofit Management) and 1998 recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom for her leadership as chief executive officer of Girl Scouts of the U.S.A. from 1976 to 1990.

The President's Reception follows the ceremonies in the lower quadrangle. In case of inclement weather, the reception will move to Coughlan Field House.

Undergraduate commencement celebration: Commencement exercises begin at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 20, in O'Shaughnessy Stadium. In the event of inclement weather, viewing sites will be available on the north and south campus for all guests. Speaker: Gregory Roberts, former vice president of student affairs at St. Thomas (1993-2003) who is now executive director of the Washington, D.C.-based American College Personnel Association.

The President's Reception follows the ceremonies in the lower quadrangle (or, in event of inclement weather, Coughlan Field House).

Graduate commencement celebration, College of Business: Commencement exercises for recipients of College of Business graduate degrees begin at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 20, in Schoenecker Arena. Speaker: Michael Hoffman '88, CEO, president and chairman of the Toro Co. A reception follows in the Student Dining Room, Murray-Herrick Campus Center.
