Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Program begins Oct. 3

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Program begins Oct. 3

The Wellness Center is sponsoring a new Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Program that is open to the St. Thomas community. The eight-week program starts on Tuesday, Oct. 3.

Benefits of the program include:

  • Coping skills to improve your ability to handle stressful situations
  • Improved self-esteem and renewed enthusiasm for life
  • Development of the potential to be fully present in each moment
  • Development of your ability to move toward greater balance, control and peace of mind

Mindfulness is a way of learning to relate directly to whatever is happening in your life, when it is happening. It is the cultivation of nonjudgmental awareness in day-to-day living while developing the potential to experience each moment, no matter how difficult or intense, with serenity and clarity.

Mindfulness practice consists of paying close attention to the mind and body through awareness of thoughts, sensations and emotions.  This awareness can help you recognize habitual patterns and reactions to stress, pain and illness while learning to develop new ways of becoming more present and living a more meaningful life.

Register for a free information session from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesdays, Sept. 19 or Sept. 26.
