The Nonexempt and Exempt Staff Councils will host a brown bag “Parenting Parents” on Wednesday, Dec. 7. Father John Malone, vice president for mission, will lead the discussion from noon to 1 p.m. in the O’Shaughnessy (“leather”) Room (108), O’Shaughnessy-Frey Library Center.
The discussion will note 2009 statistics that list an estimated 43.5 million people in the United States who provide unpaid care for others age 50 and older. Based on these statistics, participants in this discussion possibly are now or will be responsible for the care of an aging parent.
Topics included in the session are:
- Communicating with loved ones
- Being proactive
- Navigating family dynamics
- Finding helpful resources
- Learning what to look for when evaluating options for care
Participants’ questions are welcome and will become part of this open discussion.
