Parents of UST students invited to discussion series

Many parents of St. Thomas students learn about the university at large events, via publications or through the eyes of their students. They rarely have an opportunity to interact firsthand with St. Thomas faculty, staff and alumni.

In February, St. Thomas' Parent Network initiated "Fireside Discussions," a lecture-and-discussion series for parents. Jane Canney, vice president for student affairs, discussed St. Thomas' response to alcohol issues and the increase in binge drinking on college campuses.

The next Fireside Discussion will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, in Room 111, O'Shaughnessy Science Hall. School of Engineering Dean Ronald Bennett will share his vision for how St. Thomas can prepare well-rounded engineers and technology leaders, and students will share news about their current projects. Parents also are invited to learn about St. Thomas' STEPS camps for sixth- and 10th-grade girls.
