Pitching your fit

There are hundreds of tips and resources available from the UST MBA office of Graduate Business Career Services. Occasionally, we will pull one out of the file and share pieces of it here on the blog.

One of the biggest challenges in applying for a job, especially if you haven't got a strong networking connection to the position is "pitching your fit" or explaining how you are the right person for the job, in more ways than just meeting the listed qualifications on the job posting.

Here are a few things to think about in pitching your fit:

  1. What strengths is the employer looking for?
  2. What Strengths Distinguish You From 400 other applicants?
Think of traits, skills and relevant background.
  3. What makes the way you do this thing (job) unique?
If you are a good leader, what specific thing do you do that makes you a good leader? Is it how you motivate people? Do you energize people? Do you bring groups to consensus? If you are a good problem solver, what makes you so good? Why will your leadership, problem-solving, or other strength stand out from other MBAs? Get specific.
