The Pre-doctoral Internship in Professional Psychology has been reaccredited by the American Psychological Association (APA), effective until  2017, Counseling and Psychological Services, and the Career Development Center have announced.

A program can be granted reaccreditation for three, five or seven years. "The program achieved the maximum number of years possible, which is a testament to our program, our training staff, and our former interns," remarked Dr. Sarah Armstrong, director of training, Counseling and Psychological Services.

The accreditation process “is intended to promote consistent quality and excellence in education and training in professional psychology and, thus, to provide tangible benefits for prospective students, the local, national, and international publics that are consumers of psychological services, and the discipline of psychology itself” (Guidelines and Principles for Accreditation of Programs in Professional Psychology, APA).

The internship program at St. Thomas has been APA-accredited since 1995.
