President's Office hosts farewell reception tomorrow for Gene Scapanski
The President's Office will host a farewell retirement reception for Dr. Gene Scapanski from 3 to 4:30 p.m. tomorrow, Tuesday, May 13, in the Rogge- Leyden Room in Murray-Herrick Campus Center. The event will include a program at 3:30 p.m.
Dr. Gene Scapanski
Scapanski began at St. Thomas in 1975 as founder and first director of the St. Thomas Graduate Programs in Catechetics and Liturgy, later renamed Graduate Programs in Pastoral Studies. He served as dean of the programs and director of the Center for Religious Education at St. Thomas from 1983 to 1986, when he took a sabbatical to earn his doctorate in Rome.
Scapanski also taught at the St. Paul Seminary from 1977 to 1982. He was named dean of its Division of Pastoral Studies and an assistant professor of systematic and pastoral theology in 1986 at the time of its affiliation with St. Thomas. He was promoted to associate professor in 1995 and professor in 1998.
He served as director of continuing education from 1995 to 1998, when he became dean of the School of Continuing Studies at St. Thomas. He has been vice president for mission since 2003.
The university community is invited to stop by the reception to say goodbye and wish Scapanski well in his retirement.
