Dr. Shersten Johnson, Music Department, presented a paper, "Dissolution and Disillusion: Britten's 'Musical Syllables,'" at the joint meeting of the Society for Music Theory and the American Musicological Society Nov. 2 in Columbus, Ohio.
Father John Michael Joncas, Catholic Studies and Theology Department, is the author of "The Ordo Missae in Missale Romanum 2002" in Worship (Vol. 76, No. 6, pages 512-536).
Dr. Mitchell Kusy, Organization Learning and Development Department, was interviewed by the Buenos Aires (Argentina) Management Herald about Fast Forward Leadership, the book that he and Dr. Louellen Essex co-authored. The interview was published in October. Based on a study that the authors conducted with innovative and successful leaders worldwide, the book offers seven outmoded practices that every leader must discard to be effective in the 21st century. In addition, the authors posed seven replacement strategies for leaders to exchange for the outmoded ones. The book, published by Financial Times-Prentice Hall, made the "What Corporate America is Reading" best-seller list according to Knight-Ridder Tribune News Service.
Dr. Yusen Liu, Marketing Department, is also business manager of the Minnesota Chinese Dance Theater. He and his wife, artistic director and choreographer Tianjaing Cui, note that the Chinese Dance Theater recently presented its 10th annual concert at the Southern Theater in Minneapolis. The performance featured ethnic and classic dances from China, with many costumes imported from China for the event.
Dr. Jeri Rockett, Personal Counseling and Dean of Student Life Office, recently attended the annual conference of the Association of University and College Counseling Center Directors in Honolulu. She presented a program, "How to Enjoy the Roller Coaster Ride: Fostering Staff Morale," with colleagues from Duke University, the University of Illinois, Southern Mississippi University and DePaul University. She also presented a program, "National Screening Days: Innovations for Small/Medium Colleges," with colleagues from St. John's University and the College of St. Benedict, Casper College and Western Illinois University -- proving that she "didn't spend all her time at the beach."
