Dr. Sarah Armstrong, Personal Counseling and Testing, presented a workshop titled "Providing Supervision Training for Staff: Toward Best Practices in Internship Centers" at the 29th annual conference of the Association of Counseling Center Training Agencies in Jacksonville, Fla. Armstrong, who completed her second year on the ACCTA board of directors, also planned its new member orientation program and co-hosted a roundtable discussion seminar for new training directors.
Father James Burns, Ph.D., Graduate School of Professional Psychology, was an invited guest lecturer at the Dr. John Gunderson Borderline Center Case Rounds of Harvard Medical School-McLean Hospital. Burns' presentation included important clinical aspects of patients who carry the borderline personality disorder diagnosis as well as material on emotional dysregulation and distress tolerance. Discussion included psychoanalytic theory and dialectical behavior therapy. The Harvard psychiatrist, Dr. John Gunderson, who organizes the case conference, is an international scientist and researcher and a foremost scholar in the area of borderline personality disorder.
Dr. Thomas Fisch, St. Paul Seminary School of Divinity, has edited Primary Readings on the Eucharist (Collegeville: Pueblo-Liturgical Press, 2004). The book comprises a set of important previously published essays by, among others, Robert Taft, S.J.; Edward Schillebeeckx; Kallistos Ware; John Zizioulas; Dominic Serra; and Brevard S. Childs.
JoAnn Toussaint, O'Shaughnessy-Frey Library Center, was awarded the Minnesota Library Association Paraprofessional of the Year Award at the MLA Annual Conference on Oct. 8. In the presentation, it was noted that Toussaint "has been very involved, very efficient and very unassuming about the job that she does and the things that she accomplishes." Toussaint's supervisor, Faith Bonitz, said, "JoAnn is very deserving of such an award. She always is looking for ways to contribute her time to others. She cares about providing good customer service to UST students, faculty, staff and to the other libraries served through interlibrary loan. One of her most commendable traits is her willingness to go the extra mile."
