Dr. Kevin Theissen, Geology Department, and Dr. Kyle Zimmer, Biology Department, presented preliminary results of their ongoing studies of Minnesota shallow lake ecology at the third annual Initiative for Renewable Energy and the Environment research symposium Nov. 28 at the University of Minnesota. Zimmer and Theissen are exploring past and present ecology of these lakes with collaborators from the University of Minnesota and St. Thomas undergraduates Krista Damme, Sarah Derr, Amanda Hogan, Travis Jacobs, Thomas Rodengen and Maryn Wells, who are co-authors on the projects. The work has implications for lake management and utilizing wetlands as natural "sinks" for carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

Gina Yetzer, Gainey Conference Center, has been appointed to the board of directors of the Owatonna Area Chamber of Commerce and Tourism.
