The Rev. Jan Michael Joncas, Theology Department, gave the inaugural Habiger Lecture in Catholic Studies April 10 at St. Thomas and April 13 at St. John's University. The lecture was titled: "The Meal Ministry of Jesus of Nazareth and Its Implications for Contemporary Worship and Life." He also gave a lecture, "The christian Rites of Dying and Death," in the series, Exploring Questions of Life and Death: An Interfaith Conversation, sponsored by the Jay Phillips Center for Jewish-Christian Learning May 1 at St. Thomas and May 2 at the College of St. Benedict. The premiere of Joncas' musical settings of Psalms 110 and 111 and Revelations 19 took place at the vespers service dedicating the new noack organ in St. Mary's Chapel May 7. The settings were scored for assembly, male and female cantors, choir, organ, brass and handbells.
Dr. Mitchell Kusy, Graduate Departmetn of Organization Learning and Development, School of Education, keynoted a national audio conference of the Medical Group Management Association. Seventy-five sites in 28 states participated in this virtual conference. The population included medical leaders and physician executives. Kusy's presentation, "How to Successfully Orient Physicians to a Group Practice," included two live call-in sessions.
Dr. Don LaMagdeleine and Dr. Bruce Kramer, School of Education, presented two jointly authored papers at the recent American Educational Research Association meetings in New Orleans: "It's Not About Technology: What Two Cases Reveal About Technology Dilemmas," and "A Tale of Two Technologies: Can Internet Courses be as Good as Traditional?" LaMagdeleine also co-presented a paper, " Using Conceptual Metaphors in Case Studies: A Rationale With Illustrative Examples," with Sara Dexter, a graduate of St. Thomas' Ed.D. program in educational leadership. Dexter currently is a research associate at the University of Minnesota's Center for Applied Research and Educational Improvement.
Dr. Jeanne McLean, School of Divinity, gave a presentation, "The Challenges of Academic Leadership," at the 97th annual convention and exposition of the National Catholic Education Association April 25-28 in Baltimore, Md.
